Fairy Tail Anime To Return

Fairy Tail Anime To Return

Creator of the Fairy Tail manga, and subsequently the anime adaptation, Hiro Mashima has confirmed via Twitter that the continuation of the anime series has been green lit. Following its ending back in March, not much information has been released about the anime’s continuation with only small hints being dropped from time to time.

Not only that, but Mashima went on to tweet that the new Fairy Tail anime project will be something new and a sequel to the anime series. Whether or not this indicates a new name for the upcoming continuation of the anime, to separate itself from the ‘original’ anime, is still unclear. There has been no announced date for the upcoming anime project thus far, or even if the anime will cover the current events of the manga.

The Fairy Tail anime ended its run on March 30 with a total of 175 episodes. Over the last 3 1/2 years, the series has grown in popularity and has had 5 OVAs thus far and a movie, Fairy Tail: Houou no Miko, that released in August last year. The anime is available for streaming via Crunchyroll, Funimation has released the physical copies of the anime as well as streaming the english dub, and Del Ray are currently publishing the manga. The manga has also gained high popularity with the series’ 39th volume going on sale soon. The manga itself has just ended a lengthy arce, which the anime ended approximately half way through the arc.

Here is a synopsis of the anime from MAL:

Set in an imaginary world, the Earth Land, there exists a Mage Guild called “Fairy Tail”. Fairy Tail is stationed in the town Magnolia, residing in the Kingdom of Fiore, and is currently governed by Makarov, Guild’s master.  Lucy Heartfilia, a 17-year-old girl, wishes to become a full-fledged mage and join one of the most prestigious Mage Guilds in the world, Fairy Tail.  One day, out of pure coincidence, she meets Natsu Dragneel, a boy who is transportation-sick, but very cheerful in nature. However, the thing she does not know is that Natsu is the closest connection to Fairy Tail, as he is a Mage in Fairy Tail.

There has been no talk whether the same studio and production team (A-1 Pictures) will still continue to produce the new anime or whether the cast will return. However, there will be an OVA titled Fairy Tail x Rave Master releasing later in the season, bundled with manga’s 39th volume.
